The Selection Process

One in a million

We strive to identify and enroll the most deserving and high-potential students into our program through a thorough, thoughtful, and highly rigorous evaluation journey. We use a carefully designed five-step selection process that helps us recognize talent, commitment, and promise.

Step 1: Talent Identification

We begin our journey by identifying 80-100 rank holders from the National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship examination conducted annually by the Government of Gujarat. We also reach out to bright students studying in low-cost private schools.

Step 2: Academic Assessment

Our team then conducts an assessment to evaluate students’ understanding of math and science concepts, along with their logical and critical thinking skills. This test, developed with guidance from renowned math and science experts, is taken by around 400-500 students at a local school in Ahmedabad.

Step 3: Expert Interviews

The top 15-20% of students are invited for an in-person interview conducted by our team along with senior scientists from the Physical Research Laboratory and the Vikram Sarabhai Community Science Centre.

Step 4: Home Evaluation

Based on the interviews, about 50% of the students are shortlisted for home visits. During these visits, the TLI team interacts with both students and their parents to better understand their family background and their commitment to supporting the student’s educational journey.

Step 5: Scholar Induction

After this comprehensive process, the selected students join TLI as scholars, ready to pursue their goals and realize their full potential.
